By developing the essential components of a business plan, JA Be Entrepreneurial challenges students to start an entrepreneurial venture while still in high school.

JA Economics

JA Economics is a one-semester course that examines the fundamental concepts of micro-, macro- and international economics. This is not your grandfather’s economics course. While students receive standard textbooks and study guides, the JA volunteer helps the teacher bring economic theory to life. Typically, teachers in the course also use JA Titan or the JA Student Company.

JA Personal Finance

The program jointly sponsored by JA and the National Endowment for Financial Education is the newest high school program and is designed to deal with the critical problems faced by many Americans as they make financial decisions. Topics include making a financial plan, budgeting, saving and investing, debt, insurance ad career planning. Expert JA volunteers work with teachers and students in these areas in an effort to improve the financial literacy of our citizens.

JA Success Skills

JA Success Skills develops students’ interpersonal effectiveness and problem-solving strategies necessary for the workplace. Building rapport, influencing others and teamwork are critical interpersonal skills discussed in this course. The students undergo individual interpersonal skill assessment, and benchmarks are set. They then practice and develop these skills as JA classroom volunteers demonstrate their relevance to school, work and life.

JA Banks in Action™

Through hands-on classroom activities and local, regional, and national competitions, JA Banks in Action teaches high school students the principles of the banking industry, and introduces them to the challenges of successfully operating a bank in a competitive environment. JA Banks in Action not only educates young people around the world about the banking industry, but also encourages them to become better citizens and smarter consumers.

JA Business Ethics™

Through hands-on classroom activities, JA Business Ethics fosters students’ ethical decision-making as they prepare to enter the workforce and take part in the global marketplace. Students will recognize and analyze theory, terminology, and concepts; apply skills; and evaluate ethical decision-making. Seven required, five supplemental, volunteer-led sessions.

JA Careers with a Purpose™

JA Careers with a Purpose introduces students to the importance of seeking careers that help them realize their life potential and noble purpose. The program demonstrates the importance of positive values, life maxims, and ethical decision-making within the context of career and life decisions. Seven required, volunteer-led sessions.

JA Titan

JA Titan is a computer based business decision making simulation. Working with the JA volunteer, students compete in a cyber market right in their classroom. Teams make the basic economic decisions every business makes: pricing, quantity to produce, marketing, research and development, capital investment and charitable contributions. The decisions of each team in the classroom interact with those of the other teams in this dynamic activity. At the conclusion of the activity, the most successful teams have te opportunity to compete in local, regional and national competitions.

JA Company Program

With the support and guidance of volunteer consultants from the local business community, the JA Company Program provides basic economic education for high school students inside the economics classroom. By organizing and operating an actual business enterprise, students not only learn how businesses function, they also learn about the structure of the U.S. free enterprise system and the benefits it provides.

Junior Achievement of Lincoln
