We hope that by now there’s no doubt that at JA of Lincoln, we LOVE our volunteers! Without generous, caring, enthusiastic individuals to take our curriculum into the classroom, all the cutting-edge curriculum in the world is meaningless. Our volunteers are what make everything possible, and that’s why we love to brag about these wonderful people! This month, we’re spotlighting longtime JA volunteer Jan Hardesty of Allstate.
Jan has a long history with JA of Lincoln, dating back to her time as a student in the city’s very first JA class! She’s been at Allstate for 23 years, and she’s been a JA classroom volunteer for 18 of them. In that time, she’s impacted hundreds of kindergarten-5th graders– and she’s clearly very memorable. Just last weekend, Jan tells us she met a college student who said he recognized her voice from somewhere. After some chatting, they figured out that Jan had been his JA classroom volunteer when he was in elementary school!
Jan is one of those volunteers who is tireless in her generosity. In addition to her status as a member of our Silver Apple Society (meaning she’s reached more than 300 students since 2010), Jan is also a company coordinator at Allstate, helping fill classrooms at Morley Elementary. As if all that weren’t enough, she has also volunteered as an emcee at our bowl-a-thon for the last 7 years!
Because of Jan’s efforts, hundreds and hundreds of local students have a better shot at a brighter future. All of us at JA of Lincoln appreciate her and thank her for helping us build a stronger future, one classroom at a time!
