Upgrades & Updates – We Never Stop Improving

articleThere’s a reason that Junior Achievement is known for our cutting edge curriculum– we never rest on our laurels! Each year, we reevaluate and update, making sure our curriculum reflects the most current research, technology, and feedback. When you become a JA volunteer, you can rest assured that we send you into the classroom equipped with only the best!

This year, several of our programs have received upgrades and updates, and we’re excited to share them with you!

The 4th grade “Our Region” curriculum has a new look, including updated graphics, materials, and volunteer/teacher guides. A major focus remains on the value of entrepreneurship, and using the resources available to build a business. One way the students are exposed to this concept is through the Hot Dog Stand Game, which has been updated this year. Students learn to perform tasks of a business owner, observing and evaluating how money flows into and out of the business.

Two of the middle school programs, “It’s My Future” and “It’s My Business,” will now become blended. This newly expanded program is also receiving a big technology update! Instead of the traditional volunteer kit, classroom volunteers will now be equipped with an iPad or similar device. The students will also use device to complete interactive modules. “It’s My Future” will maintain a focus on exploring careers, discovering ways to plan for and keep a job, and creating a personal brand. “It’s My Business” will build on those concepts as students discover characteristics of successful entrepreneurs. They’ll learn about filling a need, knowing your customer and product, and being creative and innovative.

All our curriculum is always designed with the goal of giving both the student and the volunteer the best possible experience. We believe that this year’s upgrades will do just that– but we hope you’ll try them out for yourself! There’s never been a better time to become a JA of Lincoln classroom volunteer.
