Program Feature: JA Finance Park

JAFP Student Workbook Cover v2Here at JA of Lincoln, we always want you to understand exactly what your generosity makes possible when you support us. You know we’re teaching K-12 students the principles of financial literacy, entrepreneurship, and business ethics, but we want to make sure you know how cool that really is when put into practice! To that end, we’ve been featuring some in-depth looks at the various programs we run in schools all over Southeastern Nebraska. Today, we’re excited to introduce you to Finance Park.

This year we have nearly 500 LPS 8th grade students going through a brand new program, JA Finance Park Virtual. This is real-world financial literacy at its best! Finance Park teaches students about budgeting and how to live within their means, all while exposing them to more than 100 different career options. The program includes 12 in-class lessons, eight taught by the teacher and four taught by a JA classroom volunteer.

After the initial concepts are established, students go through a four-session virtual simulation where they create an avatar and are assigned a career, a family, and a salary, and they have to make budgeting decision based upon their life circumstances. Students will cover Income, Savings, Investing, Risk Management, Debit & Credit, and Budgeting. Within the virtual simulation there are business store fronts in various categories, and students decide their budget for each of those business categories. We are thrilled to bring Finance Park to nine different LPS middle schools this year!

We’d like to thank our sponsors who have already signed on to sponsor these store fronts:
