For an entire semester, 8th graders teamed up to design and then run their own businesses, which ran the gamut from lawn services to babysitting, designer water bottles to scented bath bombs. Fiserv Senior Vice President Jamie Dieterding volunteered his time to create the curriculum and run the program, Then, on May 4th, it was time to dive into the tank. Our panel of Shark Tank judges included Mayor Chris Beutler, business owner and former state senator Tony Fulton, and UNL College of Business Dean Donde Plowman. The students did some truly impressive work, and the community took notice! Check out the coverage of the event from Channel 8 Eyewitness News and the Lincoln Journal Star:
The first place team (chosen unanimously by our Sharks), who developed a company called “Efflorescence”, was made up of Avry Victor, Sarah Vagts, Courtnay Hagedorn, and Morgan Framke. They made triple the profit they’d estimated they would ($813!), and were awarded $1,200 in scholarship money to split.
Congratulations to all our winners, and thank you to Fiserv, Cathedral of the Risen Christ, our Sharks, and everyone who made this exciting event possible!
