Once again, we were left with renewed hope for the future. These students truly are the best and brightest – motivated, ambitious, and talented. Thanks to our wonderful panel of speakers and mentors, they’re now also equipped with the understanding of what it takes to build a successful business. That’s a great combination!
21 students completed the DYI program this year, and they formed groups to produce eight business plans. Those plans were presented to our very impressed final evening audience, including our final speaker, Aaron Babcock, the owner and publisher of Hail Varsity Magazine.
In addition to hearing the business plans, the final DYI is our favorite class because it’s when we get to give away the scholarship and prizes! This year, thanks to Nelnet, we were able to award a $500 scholarship to Lincoln Pius X Senior Hayley Stamper. In addition, Hunter Harrington and P.J. O’Brien won Kindle Fires donated by Kaplan University.
Thank you to Kaplan University, Nelnet, our group of inspirational speakers and mentors, our amazing students, and everyone else who made this session of DYI possible! We’ve heard it over and over again from alumni – the DYI program truly is a game-changer for the young people who take advantage of this opportunity. We can’t wait to see what these students accomplish!
