Kaplan to sponsor two scholarships
As we’ve mentioned before, the start of the 2013-2014 school year will mark the beginning of an exciting new partnership between JA of Lincoln and Lincoln Public Schools. For the first time ever, the Junior Achievement curriculum will be part of every LPS high school Business Economics class. This is very good news for Lincoln’s students – they’ll get to experience the wonderful Exploring Economics curriculum, which teaches vital real-world financial lessons. Students will examine the impact they have on the economy as consumers and taxpayers, and learn important financial lessons about spending, saving, and investing.
Of course, what makes every JA program truly unique is who is doing the teaching! As with all Junior Achievement programs, a volunteer from the local business community will visit the classroom over a series of weeks, mentoring students and giving them access to their real-world business knowledge and experience.
This will add an additional 30 classrooms next year, and we already have all the volunteers matched with a teacher! To kick off the new partnership, a reception was held recently to allow the teachers and volunteers to meet and hopefully create long-term partnerships. To make a good evening even better, Kaplan University president Kate Packard announced that Kaplan will sponsor two $500 college scholarships exclusively for the students who are participating in this program in the coming school year. We also are working on some additional exciting opportunities that will be exclusive to these students, and we look forward to sharing them with you when everything is finalized!
