As the 2011-2012 school year came to a close, JA of Lincoln completed one of our favorite tasks of the year – handing out scholarships to some of Lincoln’s best and brightest high school seniors. We’re particularly proud of the 2012 crop, and we’d like to introduce them to you individually, in hopes that they’ll inspire hope for the future in you in the same way they did for us. We continue with Jessica Gehr, winner of the $1,000 Ken Carlson Scholarship.
While Jessica’s scholarship application immediately revealed her to be a seriously impressive student (4.4 GPA, lettering in both volleyball and tennis, serving as youth representative at the Community Anti-Drug Coalition of America Conference in Washington DC, plenty of other recognitions and awards), it was her vision for the future that really hooked us. Before graduating from high school, she had already written a business plan for the strength-based leadership consulting firm that she intends to start someday. She wants to take the skills she learned in the JA ‘Be Entrepreneurial’ program and do just that – own and operate a firm that will be dedicated to, in her words, “assisting future leaders and entrepreneurs in identifying, fostering, and developing their strengths and talents to better prepare them for their career and future.” As you might imagine, that’s music to our ears!
We’d like to congratulate Jessica once again on her accomplishments! Here’s hoping that the Ken Carlson Scholarship is one stepping stone towards a future of inspiring the leaders of tomorrow!
