Kindergarteners Give Back

“It just made our day. We loved it!”

When Gates and Daisy Minnick received an envelope in the mail from a Lincoln kindergarten class, they had no idea what to expect. In all honesty, Daisy said, they had forgotten about the $100 they had donated earlier in the year to sponsor the Junior Achievement curriculum in a Lincoln classroom.

The kindergarteners, however, clearly had not forgotten. Thanks to the Minnicks, they got to experience the “Ourselves” series of lessons, taught to them by a caring JA volunteer. In return, they sent the Minnicks a smiling class photo, along with handwritten thank you notes from every one of the students. It was, as Daisy describes it, “Simply darling!”

Each school year, dozens of Lincoln classrooms get to participate in JA thanks to generous members of the community like the Minnicks. $100 provides all the materials for one classroom, and donors can even choose the school (or even the specific classroom!) they’d like to sponsor. And, like the Minnicks, each donor will receive a “Thank you!” package from their classroom.

As for Daisy and Gates Minnick, they say they’ll definitely be sponsoring more classrooms for the upcoming school year– and they think you should too! “I would think lots of people would want to do this,” Daisy said. “We’ll certainly be telling our friends to do it too!”
